9,000 email Meta to object to AI glasses recording them

More than 9,000 people have emailed Meta saying they do not consent to being filmed by the company's AI glasses. The drive, created by campaign group Everyone Hates Elon, comes amid criticism of Meta's AI eyewear following the launch of its latest models on 23 June. Among them is "Meta Glasses by Kylie" – a $399 model co-designed with reality star Kylie Jenner that includes an AI assistant speaking in Jenner's own voice. Within 24 hours, more than 9,000 people had sent letters to Meta objecting to the company processing their personal data through its AI glasses. The letter reads: "I am objecting to Meta processing my personal data through its AI glasses (including Ray-Ban Meta and related products)." It continues: "I am asking Meta to: "Stop processing my personal data for the purposes listed above. "Confirm in writing what data of mine has been processed and for what purpose. "Confirm what action has been taken in response to this objection." When Jenner unveiled the glasses, some commenters described them as "predator glasses" and "a scary product for a WOMAN to be supporting". At a festival in Madrid, singer Lorde also urged fans: "Don't get the glasses." Everyone Hates Elon has also taken its protests to the streets of London. The campaign group installed spoof bus stop adverts across London featuring the paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein wearing the glasses beneath the slogan: "Glasses for people who don't do consent." Near Meta's King's Cross headquarters, it also erected a poster featuring Kylie Jenner that used an optical illusion. From a distance, it resembled a genuine advertisement, but up close Jenner's face appeared skeletal and the tagline changed to: "Meta: We're always watching" – a reference to John Carpenter's film They Live. A spokesperson for Everyone Hates Elon said: "These glasses will make it easy to record women and children without their knowledge. "There are reports that future versions won't even have the red light to show people they're being recorded. "They feel like they're making perverts' and abusers' lives easier when we should be making women's lives easier. They are pervert glasses." Kleinflugzeug musste in Kirchdorf notlanden
